Ben Rosenthal

Managing Partner

Relax, look around, and make a call.

In his tenth year with Penrose, Ben points to his role in bringing the team through the 2008-2009 financial crisis, and ending up stronger because of it, as a professional high point.

Famously late, Ben has the self-awareness and wit to claim that his personal mantra is, ‘Try not to be late’. Reflecting on this intrinsic irony, Ben has a personal Plan B, which drives his approach to business:

“Relax, look around and make a call”

…Well, if it works for the Navy Seals…

Not many people know about Ben’s self-proclaimed ‘obsession’ with Thomas Jefferson. He even named his son Hank Thomas Rosenthal. When you know Ben, it’s reasonable to suggest that his close affinity with Jefferson may well be that they’re both successful polymaths with a strong desire to do good for others.

Ashli Blumenfeld

Marketing Director

Kill ‘em with kindness.

Ashli joined Penrose during the summer of 2011 after a successful stint in New York City with an Italian fashion designer. Bringing her energy, enthusiasm and natural affinity with people, Ashli was a perfect fit as Marketing Director with Penrose. Plus she was home; back with brother Ben and dad Billy.

Ashli is a proud and vibrant member of the Penrose work family and certainly lives by a mantra of Billy’s, “Kill ’em with kindness”. In keeping with both her personality and professional background, Ashli frequently calls to mind the advice of Coco Chanel:

“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”

These are not mere words but a credo which informs Ashli’s professional life. Ashli is typically exhaustive in addressing a laundry list of little known facts. Here are the highlights:

  • Loves organizing friends’ pantries
  • Rearranges her book shelves almost every month
  • Loves planning parties
  • You know Ashli has had too much wine when she sneezes three times in a row

Billy Rosenthal

Founder & Chairman

Always try to help people make their dreams come true.

Billy has been with Penrose since 1998 when he established the single family office after 30 years of success in food manufacturing.

Billy is the epitome of a people person, building Penrose based on sound investments in talented, like-minded people. He is also a dedicated family man; his proudest achievement being the growth of Penrose as a legacy for his children Ben, Ashli and Maddie, not to mention the hundreds of management and staff Billy has taken under his wing during his career.

As if to underscore his commitment to people and family, Billy lives by the motto:

“Always try to help people make their dreams come true.”

He’s certainly helped many dreams come true in his stellar career. If he ever allows himself time away from work and family Billy dreams of playing the world’s greatest golf courses. You will undoubtedly find him in the world’s greatest clubhouses too, regaling people with tales and, inevitably, doing business.

Regan Wright

Research Chef

You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together.

Regan joined the work family at Penrose early 2015 having worked in a similar capacity with another arm of the Rosenthal business.

Passing by his office any time of the day you’ll be treated to Regan’s passion for listening to music. Outside of work Regan loves nothing more than a relaxing session of lawn mowing and dish washing. That’s right, Regan knows a good time when he sees one.

As someone who likes to live life on the edge, Regan keenly ascribes to the sage advice of lifestyle guru Hunter S. Thompson:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’”

On a decidedly Thompsonesque note, Regan looks forward to the day when he can realize his dream of taking a motorcycle road trip along the coast of Vietnam.

Steve Hudgins

Chief Investment Officer

Nope.

As a career-long money man Steve has a tongue-in-cheek reputation for saying “No” to potential partners; so much so that he claims his proudest achievements in his 5 years with Penrose are the rare occasions that he’s said, “Yes”.

This dry humor is one of Steve’s many strong points, personally and professionally. He gives a vestigial peak at a hidden talent when claiming to be ‘an amateur musician’. That’s all. No further details are forthcoming.

When not driving Penrose forward with trademark clarity of purpose, Steve dreams of a new vacation destination. Any new destination will do.

Tyler Duesman

Sales

Do it with passion, be kind to others

Tyler joined the Penrose family in 2017, eager to expand our mission to deliver innovative solutions and high quality products for our partners.

When it comes to sales, Tyler believes that if you

“Do it with passion, be kind to others, then success will follow”

Whether he’s working in the garden, pushing biz dev, or spending valuable time with his wife and children, Tyler’s passion shows.

Holly Vaughan

Office Manager

Dreams & dedication are a powerful combination.

Holly helped make Penrose happen, moving over with Billy in 1998 after an initial 6 years elsewhere in the Rosenthal work family. That makes a phenomenal 24 years’ service and counting.

You can’t buy that kind of loyalty and institutional knowledge. Underpinning her extensive service and knowledge is Holly’s motto, courtesy of William Longgood,

“Dreams and dedication are a powerful combination.”

While not seeking to draw a correlation between the two things, Holly says that little known facts about her include a love of spicy food and that she once ran a 50-mile ultra-marathon. Better known is that Holly has family at heart, describing her son and daughter as ‘her life’.

Kathy Phillips

Accounting & HR

We can do small things with great love.

Kathy has worked with four generations of Rosenthal’s and joined Penrose with Billy in 1998. She echoes the sentiments of the group in saying that “as a small team we all get along so well and complement each other professionally”.

As part of a notable theme with all at Penrose, Kathy finds no greater joy than in her 42-year marriage to Culley, their children, and six grandchildren. Equally notable is the sentiment from Mother Teresa that Kathy holds most dear,

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Like any great American, Kathy loves hamburgers and… The Sound of Music!? She also loves to watch The Lord of the Rings movies while planning her dream trip to Hawaii.

Lindsey Jensen

Accounting & HR

Be silly.
Be honest.
Be kind.

Having settled readily in the Penrose work family in January 2016, Lindsey is proud to know and work with what she describes as ‘this wonderful group’.

While secretly she is a self proclaimed ‘very competitive’ person, Lindsey’s personal rallying cry from Ralph Waldo Emerson is one that may just make the world a better place

“Be silly. Be honest. Be kind.”

When not working you’ll find Lindsey vacationing anywhere with a nice beach, accompanied by her husband and three boys.
